摘要

Reactance describes the inner resistance to perceived restrictions on freedom—a phenomenon that frequently occurs in coaching (as occasion for coaching or during interaction). The article examines the socio-psychological concept of reactance and supplements it with complementary perspectives from other strands of psychology. It becomes clear that reactance is not a disruptive factor, but an expression of the individual need for autonomy, goal commitment, and identity. Coaches can use reactance as a valuable indicator to shape change processes in a mindful, participatory, and self-determination-promoting way—and thus sustainably support the personal development of their clients.
