摘要

The concept “embodiment” represents a novel orientation within the social and human sciences, which emphasizes the relevance of bodily processes for a better understanding of cognition and experience. This orientation, the ‘corporeal turn’, applies also to social interactions, as individuals generally synchronize with respect to their facial and postural expressions as well as their physiological activations. Such interpersonal synchrony likewise arises in the context of the therapeutic alliance, in coaching and counselling. In such contexts, synchrony was found associated with prosocial affect, empathy and thus higher quality of relationships. Such findings, however, should not be transferred into practice linearly; applications must still heed the authenticity of helping relationships.
