摘要

The current self-image of humans is characterized by a deep ambivalence. On the one hand, humans attribute godlike powers to themselves, believing they can create artificial intelligence, artificial life, or even consciousness. On the other hand, there is a deep pessimism that culminates in post-humanist visions of the abolitionof humanity in favor of a superior species. The essay examines the development of this ambivalence since modern times and attributes it to a fluctuation between feelings of omnipotence and impotence, which is ultimately based on collective narcissism. In light of this development, the essay argues for a new humanism based on embodiment, intercorporeality, and the embedding of humans in an ecological environment of living beings.
