Digitalgestützte Reflexion zur Optimierung von Teamprozessen in der Produktentwicklung – Ein Rahmenkonzept

This contribution to the journal “Gruppe. Interaction. Organization. (GIO)” presents a concept for structured reflection aimed at promoting the sustainable and effective use of development methods in product development. Starting from pressing challenges (e.g., rapidly changing technologies, fast-paced collaborations, and complex products) that require swift responses from development teams, this work embeds reflection within the framework of Advanced Systems Engineering (ASE) and positions it as a central element of agile development approaches. Reflection is defined as a goal-oriented process for promoting learning as well as changing processes and is structured into the phases of reflecting, planning, and adapting/acting. These phases represent reflection processes that enable the regular questioning of goals (e.g., achieving a project milestone), processes (e.g., interdisciplinary system planning), and activities (e.g., risk assessment), as well as the derivation of concrete adaptation measures.
For targeted planning, the reflection concept proposes a taxonomy that captures the team’s initial situation based on various characteristics (e.g., type or level of reflection) and determines a reflection focus and objective. A complementary reflection framework addresses guiding questions across the dimensions of social, process, and goal, at both individual and team levels. For quantitative evaluation of reflection, a coding system measures reflection behavior within teams based on the frequency of reflective statements. Building on the practical application of analog tools in product development, requirements for digital support are derived and a first conceptual outlook on AI-supported reflection is presented. In doing so, potentials and challenges as well as necessary steps for future research are discussed.
