<p>The article examines whether and how the dynamic spatial de-differentiations, new subdivisions and linkages that have emerged against the background of globalization can be conceptualized as a&#xa0;refiguration of space. In a&#xa0;first step, the spatial implications of the globalization theories of Castells (network society), Beck (world risk society) and Hardt and Negri (empire) are elaborated and conceptualized with the help of the metaphor of a&#xa0;“smoothing of space”. It is argued that this smoothing also creates the conditions for the observation and analysis of new striations. Different perspectives on these new striations can already be found in Castell’s network society, but also in the “new mobilities paradigm” (Sheller and Urry), in approaches of “glocalization” (Robertson or Berking) as well as in political science approaches (Barber or Menzel). These different perspectives on an emerging new spatial structuring of the world are systematized along the spatial figures of the territory, the network, the trajectory and the place and brought together into an overall picture with reference to the concept of refiguration. Informed by an analytics of space, current social change can thus be grasped from a&#xa0;position of “multiple spatialities”.</p>
