<p>Endophytic fungi, the most common biocontrol agents against phytopathogens, are ubiquitously found in all plant parts. Most fungal species act on various plant pathogens. Fungal endophytes provide various benefits as pathogen control agents by enhancing plant growth, inducing systemic resistance, producing various antifungal secondary metabolites via colonization, and competing with other pathogenic microorganisms for growth factors (space and nutrients). This review highlights the important roles of <i>Trichoderma</i> in plant growth promotion and protection. Furthermore, it discusses the endophytic behaviors and defensive responses, including antibiosis, parasitism, lytic enzyme production, competition, siderophore production, and indirect responses to induced systemic resistance, of endosymbionts with specific genes in host plants.</p>
