摘要

Background

Sexual boundary violations by adolescents toward peers or younger children represent a largely neglected challenge in the prevention of sexualized violence. Existing school-based prevention programs mostly focus exclusively on children and adolescents as potential victims rather than also addressing them as potential perpetrators of sexualized violence.

Objective

The Responsible Behavior Toward Children program (Verantwortungsvolles Verhalten gegenüber Kindern, 3 VK) aims to establish a school-based prevention approach that explicitly addresses adolescents as potential perpetrators of sexualized violence and contributes to preventing initial sexual boundary violations. This conceptual paper provides an overview of the program and the ongoing research process.

Methods

The 3 VK program is based on the US Responsible Behavior with Younger Children program (RBYC), which was translated and culturally adapted for the German school context. The curriculum consists of five thematically interlinked teaching units delivered by trained school staff in sixth and seventh grade classes. Content areas include boundaries, consent, legal frameworks, and risks in digital environments. Methodologically, the program employs structured knowledge transfer, videos, group and movement-based games, discursive elements, and opportunities for anonymous questions. Implementation takes place within an ongoing research project with accompanying evaluation.

Results

The effectiveness of the 3 VK program is currently being examined in a randomized controlled trial with approximately 1500 pupils at 20 schools in seven German federal states. Outcomes include self-efficacy, attitudes, norms, behavioral intentions, and experiences of victimization and boundary violations.

Conclusion

If effectiveness can be demonstrated, 3 VK may make a concrete contribution to the implementation of school safeguarding policies and can be used as an evidence-based prevention program on a broader scale.
