Background <p>International caring communities initiatives pursue different approaches to sustainably anchoring community health promotion. The study compares international models from Belgium, Finland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Slovenia.</p> Objective <p>The aim was to analyze structural, organizational, and financial framework conditions and to develop scenarios for the long-term integration of such approaches.</p> Methods <p>The study is based on a qualitative research design with eight expert interviews. A supplementary literature review was conducted to provide a theoretical foundation and contextualize the interview results.</p> Results <p>The results show that legal anchoring, reliable financing, intersectoral coordination, and the involvement of volunteers are key factors for sustainable health promotion. The identified scenarios emphasize the importance of binding responsibilities, inter-municipal steering groups, and innovative evaluation approaches. In addition, sustainability is understood not only in terms of long-term effectiveness, but also as social, ecological, and economic responsibility.</p> Conclusion <p>The findings provide impetus for the further development of municipal health promotion in German-speaking countries and show ways in which caring communities approaches can be implemented sustainably. At the same time, it is clear that the transferability of international models should always be critically reflected upon, as structural differences and specific contextual conditions must be taken into account.</p>
