In this context, concepts that are not directly linked to traditional sports, like the Heidelberg Ball School, have emerged. The extent to which such programs contribute to meeting activity guidelines remains unclear.</p> Methods <p>This study examined the number of steps children accumulate during participation in the Heidelberg Ball School, the percentage of daily physical activity recommendation this represents, and whether age- and gender-related differences exist. The number of steps taken by 407 children with an average age of <InlineEquation ID="IEq2"> <InlineMediaObject> <ImageObject Color="BlackWhite" FileRef="11553_2025_1267_Article_IEq1.gif" Format="GIF" Height="13" Rendition="HTML" Resolution="72" Type="Linedraw" Width="13" /> </InlineMediaObject> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(\overline{x}\)</EquationSource> </InlineEquation> = 6.91 years (standard deviation = 0.74) was recorded.</p> Results <p>During 24 minutes of active play, children achieved an average of 14.42% of the recommended daily physical activity. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed no significant main effects for age or gender, but a&#xa0;significant interaction. With increasing age, boys became less active, while girls became more active.</p> Conclusion <p>Participation in programs like the Heidelberg Ball School is recommended, as children can fulfill a considerable amount of the daily activity guidelines within a&#xa0;short period of active playtime and benefit from the associated health effects of physical activity.</p>

Background

Methods

Results

During 24 minutes of active play, children achieved an average of 14.42% of the recommended daily physical activity. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed no significant main effects for age or gender, but a significant interaction. With increasing age, boys became less active, while girls became more active.

Conclusion

Participation in programs like the Heidelberg Ball School is recommended, as children can fulfill a considerable amount of the daily activity guidelines within a short period of active playtime and benefit from the associated health effects of physical activity.
