摘要

Background

The present study aims to transfer the job demands–resources (JD-R) model established in the work context to the context of inclusive settings of student teachers and to investigate the relationship between their perceived professional demands, the experienced social support as a resource for coping with professional demands, the health-impairing consequence (exhaustion), and the health-promoting consequence (career choice satisfaction).

Methods

A cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted with 264 student teachers.

Results

The results of the structural equation model show that a high level of professional demands is associated with an increased risk of exhaustion among student teachers. The social support experienced correlates positively with career choice satisfaction. In addition, exhaustion is negatively correlated with career choice satisfaction.

Conclusion

The study provides initial indications of the applicability of the JD‑R model in inclusive settings to the professional demands and the experienced social support as a resource of student teachers and creates reference points for the necessary derivation of preventive measures to promote teacher health with regard to the experienced social support in the teacher training program.
