<p>In Algeria, potato is the most important vegetable crop in terms of area and production, but its productivity is under severe threat from insect pests. This study aims to prioritize these pests by evaluating the availability of authorized insecticide active substances (ASs) and their corresponding commercial formulations (CFs) at the national level. Data were compiled from diverse sources, including the Algerian phytosanitary products guide and international databases such as the&#xa0;Pesticide Properties Database (PPDB), the&#xa0;Biopesticide Properties Database (BPDB), and the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) Global database. The analysis identified insect pests from four orders and eight families, with the potato tuber moth emerging as the most problematic, supported by 10 out of 14 authorized ASs. Aphids ranked second (8 ASs), whilst other pests like noctuids, thrips, wireworms, white grubs, leafhoppers, and whiteflies had fewer options. Of the 14 ASs identified, 8 are banned in Europe, predominantly belonging to chemical groups such as pyrethroids, organophosphates, and neonicotinoids. The most commonly used ASs include deltamethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos, and thiamethoxam. This study introduces a novel framework for pest prioritization, providing a scalable methodology applicable&#xa0;to other&#xa0;pest types, crops and regions. These findings lay a foundation for strategic crop protection measures and future research to mitigate the impact of bioaggressors on potato production.</p> Graphical Abstract <p></p>
