In a rapidly changing world, fostering children’s and adolescents’ well-being is critical in China. This special issue presents research on the promotion of well‑being in Chinese children and adolescents across multiple ecological levels. The focus of the special issue comprises individual‑level determinants (e.g., future beliefs, resilience, prosocial behavior), family‑related factors (e.g., family resilience, parental warmth, intergenerational bonding, family capital), and social‑ecological factors (e.g., teacher, peer, and school climate) in child and adolescent well-being study. Several papers evaluate positive youth development (PYD) interventions, including the P.A.T.H.S. Project, showing positive effects on problem behaviors, career adaptability, and social bonding among disadvantaged, relocated, and delinquent youth in China. In addition, systematic reviews in the issue highlight the need of specialized mental health policies in China and the promise of PYD programs.
