The Compulsive Internet Use and Its Relationship with Vamping, Fear of Missing Out and Procrastination Behavior
摘要
The present study had two aims. First, to adapt and validate the Compulsive Internet Use Scale (CIUS) in the Argentine context and second, to test a tentative model to understand the relations of the compulsive Internet use, vamping and procrastination. A cross-sectional study was conducted in which 1342 people participated (51.4% female) residing in different regions of Argentina and with a mean age of 31 years (ranging from 8 to 70 years). The main results indicated adequate psychometric properties for the CIUS, both with respect to its internal validity (CFI = .943; RMSEA = .037) and reliability (Use and Consequences: α = .78; Awareness of the Problem: α = .70), arriving at a short version of the CIUS composed of eight items distributed in two main dimensions: Usage and Consequences and Problem Awareness. Likewise, the relationships between both dimensions of the CIUS with the levels of Fear of Missing Out and mobile phone use were analyzed. A theoretical model was tested in which compulsive Internet use is a central factor for vamping and this, in turn, directly influences procrastination. The main results of the study are discussed, and future lines of research are suggested.
