Assessment of Personality Disorder in Patients with Methamphetamine Dependence in Erada and Mental Health Complex in Dammam in Saudi Arabia

Randomized recruitment was used for acquiring 593 methamphetamine consumers which consists of 559 of male participants and 34 of females. Demographics were taken using a self-made questionnaire, and mental assessment was covered by a Structured Examination for the Diagnostic and Statistical Handbook of Mental Diseases, Fourth Edition, DSM-IV (SCID-I/II). The present outcomes illustrated that the male participants were split into 96.57% and 87.82% for methamphetamine (MA) dependence and independence, respectively. There is a dramatic difference among patients on the rate of admission where MA-dependent patients had admission rate of 3.43 ± 2.47, while MA-independent patients had admission rate of 4.53 ± 3.03. Furthermore, comparing personality disorder prevalence between methamphetamine-dependent and non-dependent groups revealed that a dramatic difference among those who had borderline personality disorder and those who had a mixed trait.These results indicated that borderline, mixed trait, addiction, and psychotic symptoms in Saudi patients are particularly linked to methamphetamine dependency and that several AXIS I disorder and personality disorders were prevalent among male methamphetamine users. There is an elevation of crime rates and problems in families in the Saudi society accompanied with using of methamphetamine due to its impact on personality disorder thus there is an emergency for rehabilitation programs for overcome this problem and cure these persons to avoid economic and social problems.
