A New Performed Metamaterial Biosensor for the Early Detection of Cancer Cells

Metamaterial (MTM)-based biosensors offer a novel platform for rapid and sensitive cancer detection. This innovation allows for earlier detection and better monitoring of cancer progression, opening the perspectives for more effective treatment options. In this paper, an MTM-based biosensor is proposed for detecting various cancer cells. The proposed design consists of an upper layer, a lower layer of gold, and a dielectric layer of polyimide in the middle. This design achieves an impressive absorption of 99.97% at 2.969 THz, paired with a high-quality factor (Q-factor) of 296.9 and a high figure of merit (FOM) of 60 RIU−1. The resonance frequency shifts in response to changes in the surrounding medium refractive index (RI), facilitating the sensitive detection of cancerous cells. The sensitivity when changing the RI of the surrounding medium in the range of 1.35 to 1.4 is 600 GHz/RIU. Consequently, the proposed MTM biosensor can facilitate early detection of various cancer cell types.
