<p>Spatial analysis is fundamental in archaeological research and, in the case of underwater archaeology, especially in the study of shipwrecks, it is essential to understand the extent, degree of dispersion, and spatial arrangement of objects in relation to the vessel. This information is key to examining the depositional and post-depositional processes of a shipwreck. This paper applies a spatial analysis based on statistical methods with the objective of analyzing the relationship between the dispersion of archaeological evidence in the context of the shipwreck of the San José Galleon and the event of its sinking. For this purpose, a methodology integrating statistical analysis and the study of the debris field was used, in which historical primary sources played a transversal role. The results were interpreted in the light of existing hypotheses about the causes of the collapse. From an archaeological perspective, it is argued that the organized and coherent dispersion of the evidence is not associated with the effects of an explosion.</p>
