<p>There are currently limited data on the use of automated insulin delivery (AID) systems in adults with type&#xa0;1 diabetes who have a&#xa0;migration background and/or a&#xa0;language barrier. Language barriers have been shown to restrict access to diabetes technologies for many families with a&#xa0;migration background in Austria [<CitationRef CitationID="CR12">12</CitationRef>, <CitationRef CitationID="CR19">19</CitationRef>]. If continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) therapy is indicated, a&#xa0;language barrier should not represent a&#xa0;barrier to treatment. Moreover, the language barrier should not be considered in isolation but rather within the overall context of the indication, in order to enable guideline-compliant and individualized therapy. This article describes the stepwise application of an AID system in the presence of a&#xa0;language barrier. Numerous studies have demonstrated that this technology improves metabolic control, especially nocturnal glucose levels. Automated insulin delivery could therefore also represent a&#xa0;safe and effective therapeutic option for achieving the recommended treatment goals in people with limited language skills.</p>

Language barriers have been shown to restrict access to diabetes technologies for many families with a migration background in Austria [12, 19]. If continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) therapy is indicated, a language barrier should not represent a barrier to treatment. Moreover, the language barrier should not be considered in isolation but rather within the overall context of the indication, in order to enable guideline-compliant and individualized therapy. This article describes the stepwise application of an AID system in the presence of a language barrier. Numerous studies have demonstrated that this technology improves metabolic control, especially nocturnal glucose levels. Automated insulin delivery could therefore also represent a safe and effective therapeutic option for achieving the recommended treatment goals in people with limited language skills.
