Purpose <p>Agroindustry faces several challenges for high-demand crops, such as blueberries. In Peru, one of the largest producers of blueberries in the world, the main organic amendment used in agriculture is chicken manure (CM), which has several disadvantages. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of two organic fertilisers, developed from agro-industrial wastes, on improving the physicochemical quality of soils for the blueberry cultivation.</p> Methods <p>A field assay was installed with young plants using a randomised block design with four treatments (control without fertilizer; CM; fertilizer A and B) and evaluated for 12 months. Soil physicochemical characterization and blueberry parameters related to plant/fruit development and productivity were analysed.</p> Results <p>Designed fertilisers had the highest organic matter and nutrients concentrations and adequate degree of C stabilisation. CM caused greater variability in the electrical conductivity and pH in the soil due to fast organic matter decomposition (low C/N ratio). Variations at the soil quality led to different elements content in leaves and fruits, with the increase of Pb, Zn and As in the CM treatment.</p> Conclusion <p>Application of designed fertilisers increased the crop productivity and nutritional quality of the fruits. The achievement of significant blueberry yields and the progressive improvement of soil quality through designed fertilisers, opening the possibility of valorising agro-industrial waste as an alternative source of nutrients and organic matter that can be incorporated into edaphic processes. This can contribute to a reduction in agro-industrial waste deposited in landfills and provide an approach to facilitate the decarbonisation of the sector.</p>
