Comment on: baseline motor abilities modulate gains in neuromuscular performance in a 12-week virtual aerobic dance training
摘要
This letter to the editor discusses some of the methodological commentary on the recently published study of a twelve-week online aerobic dance program designed to evaluate its effect on the neuromuscular performance of young adults. Although the increases in agility and explosive power of those participating in the program are certainly encouraging, some points relating to the lack of random assignment; baseline group imbalance; measurement validity; and interaction effect interpretations should be taken into consideration. Therefore, this letter stresses the need for caution when interpreting causation; supports the need for randomized designs; stresses the importance of utilizing motor assessments validated for adults; and emphasizes the importance of conducting objective neuromuscular measurements during future studies. It is hoped this letter will be of value toward contributing constructively to current scientific discussion, as well as strengthening methodological rigor in studies that are examining virtual-based exercise on neuromuscular adaptations.
