Purpose <p>Recent research suggests that combining nano-selenium supplements with exercise enhances immune function. This study investigates the influence of nano-selenium supplementation and interval training on hepatic MMP-13 and TGF-β gene expression in dexamethasone-treated rats<b>.</b> </p> Methods <p>The samples were 40 Wistar rats in the age range of 8&#xa0;weeks, which were randomly divided into five groups of eight (control group, dexamethasone-induced control group, dexamethasone + nano-selenium supplement group, dexamethasone + interval training group, dexamethasone + nano-selenium supplement + interval training group). The training protocol (5–12 intense period for 1&#xa0;min, with speed of 24–30&#xa0;m/min, with 75&#xa0;s active rest intervals between sets, with a speed of 5&#xa0;m/min) was performed 6&#xa0;days a week for 4&#xa0;weeks. The prepared stock solution of selenium nanoparticles was given to rats at an amount of 100&#xa0;mg by gavage every other day.</p> Results <p>A two-way analysis of covariance was used to determine the difference in variables between groups at a significant level (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05). The results showed that in the case of MMP-13 gene expression, the averages in the nano-selenium group (<i>P</i> = 0.019) increased significantly compared to the healthy group. In the case of TGF-β gene expression, the results showed that the averages test showed a significant decrease in the&#xa0;nano-selenium supplementation group (<i>P</i> = 0.009) and in the interval training group compared to the healthy group (<i>P</i> = 0.020).</p> Conclusion <p>Interval training and nano-selenium supplementation enhance the body’s antioxidant system, leading to improved immune function and the mitigation of the negative effects of dexamethasone on MMP-13 and TGF-β gene expression.</p>
