Background <p>Exercise during pregnancy has received a lot more attention in the last couple of decades due to several studies showing its numerous positive impacts on the mother’s and the unborn child's health. Different forms of exercises have been recommended to be suitable during the pregnancy period. Among those, Pilates has been particularly suggested for use in the prenatal and postpartum phases because to its low to no impact nature.</p> Objective <p>The objective of this review is to study the literature available on the therapeutic use of Pilates during pregnancy and explore how effective it is in terms of improvement or maintenance of the health status of the mother and the child. Also, we would like to study the current literature for potential safety of application of Pilates exercises during the pregnancy period.</p> Methods <p>This is a narrative review with a comprehensive search for relevant scientific literature conducted in three databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Google scholar published between the years 2000 and 2024. Titles, abstracts and full texts were reviewed for the relevant information.</p> Conclusion <p>With appropriate modifications, Pilates method of training is a potentially safe and effective method of prescribing exercises during any stage of pregnancy without there being any detrimental effects on the developing foetus.</p> Level of evidence <p>5</p>

Background

Objective
