摘要

As air quality and associated odor emissions escalate into extremely severe problems in developed countries along with civic development, methods of their reduction are being sought extensively. One of the most onerous in this case is sewage management. With the current intensification of anthropopressure and growing public awareness, the search for methods to reduce emissions of odorants from wastewater management is almost becoming a necessity. The first and key action undertaken in this respect should be prevention. However, if the preventive action does not bring the expected results, measures to reduce, or at best remove, the odorous substances from the resulting gases become necessary. Choosing the way to proceed is quite difficult. Effectiveness per se and effectiveness stability of the chosen method as well as costs (both operational and investment ones) should be at stake. The summary of methods presented in this article should facilitate the selection of the appropriate one for reducing the odor nuisance caused by objects of this type. In the first place, it is necessary to prepare an inventory of the odor nuisance problem. The next step should be to reduce the odor nuisance of the generated gases. The article presents methods for inventorying and reducing odor nuisance of wastewater (both emission prevention and deodorization of emitted gases). Methods for blocking emissions and diluting emitted gases are also discussed. A summary of the direction of future research and the most commonly used techniques and recommendations is also included.
