摘要

Water quality parameter is required to know the quality of water and to determine the habits (ex., what people eat) of population located in a nearby region and extent of industrialization. Different chemical markers such as pH, turbidity, salinity, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate; and biological markers like antibiotic resistant genes and heavy metal resistant genes have been evaluated and are discussed for two distinctive estuaries viz., Ulhas and Shastri. Upon comparing such parameters, it was found that urbanely located Ulhas river have poor quality water and which have damaging health impacts. Ulhas water showed high turbidity value being 247.8 NTU, ammonium concentration was elevated as high as 31.8 µmol/L, large number of faecal coliforms and maximum number of microbes in Ulhas water have antimicrobial resistant genes and heavy metal resistant genes.
