摘要

Acmella radicans (Jacq.) R.K.Jansen (Asteraceae) is a widespread and troublesome weed in Yunnan Province, China and information about its seed germination biology is scant. A series of experiments were conducted to explore the effects of various environmental factors (temperature, light, pH, NaCl, soil water content, and burial depth) on germination and seedling emergence of A. radicans under controlled conditions. The optimum temperature for maximum germination (85.0%) and index (9.44) was between 25 and 30 °C. Compared with constant temperatures, all germination values of A. radicans were markedly reduced by the same mean alternating temperatures. Seeds of A. radicans were positively photoblastic, and seed germination under full light and dark conditions averaged 78.3% and 1.7% respectively. Seed germination (> 80.0%) was unaffected by pH levels ranging from 4 to 10. The highest germination (83.3%) and lowest germination (27.5%) occurred at 40 and 160 mM NaCl concentrations respectively. Seeds on the soil surface had the highest germination percentage (84.2%), while no seed germinated at soil depths ≥ 3 cm. Seed germination gradually increased with increasing soil water content up to 80% and was then reduced with increasing soil water content up to 100%. All these results show that A. radicans has a strong ability to germinate under a broad range of environmental conditions. The knowledge obtained in this study will be useful to develop better management strategies for reducing germination and seedling emergence of A. radicans in areas where it can rapidly colonize.
