Purpose <p>Patients with renal failure are often predisposed to sepsis, leading to multi-organ failure and death. This study aims to analyze mortality trends related to sepsis and renal failure among U.S. residents aged 55 and older from 1999 to 2020 and to identify demographic, geographic, and regional disparities.</p> Methods <p>This descriptive study utilized data from the CDC WONDER database. Mortality rates were calculated and standardized to the 2000 U.S. standard population. Joinpoint regression was used to analyze annual percent changes (APCs) with 95% confidence intervals to identify significant trends.</p> Results <p>A total of 652,983 renal-related deaths occurred among adults aged 55 and older between 1999 and 2020. The age-adjusted mortality rate (AAMR) for sepsis and renal failure-related deaths increased from 37.8 per 100,000 in 1999 to 41.9 per 100,000 in 2020. The AAPC for women was 1.56% (95% CI 0.92 to 2.21), while for men it was −&#xa0;0.78% (95% CI −&#xa0;1.42 to −&#xa0;0.14), indicating an increase in mortality rates among women and a decrease among men. Trends indicated the highest AAMRs per 100,000 population among Black individuals (86.07), followed by American Indians and Alaskan Natives (56.62). Urban regions recorded a rise from 1999 to 2020 while rural regions indicated a decline.</p> Conclusion <p>This study underscores the increasing burden of sepsis and renal failure-related mortality among older adults in the U.S., with notable disparities across different demographic groups and regions. The findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to improve early detection, treatment, and healthcare access to reduce mortality rates and address these inequities.</p>
