<p>Understanding nutrient intake, digestibility, and metabolic profiles enables the formulation of well-balanced diets, thereby enhancing animal performance. Nevertheless, the influence of sex class on the nutritional requirements of sheep remains inconclusive. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect os different roughage: concentrate ratios and class sexs in the intake and apparent digestibility nutrient, nitrogen balance and balance and metabolic profile of Brazilian Somalis. A completely randomized design was adopted, in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement, with three roughage: concentrate ratio (R: C 67:33; 47:53 and 19:81) and two sexes (non-castrated male (10) and female (10)). The experimental period was 70 days, with a 14-days adaptation period. The class sex affected (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05) the intake of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, ether extract, fibrous components, nitrogen ingested (NI), retained (NR) and intake of metabolizable protein, with higher values for non-castrated males. Sheep fed the R: C 19:81 diet showed (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05) higher apparent digestibility nutrients, NI (8.00&#xa0;g/day), NR (5.14&#xa0;g/day), glucose (73.78&#xa0;mg/dL) and lower intake of fibrous components (200.82&#xa0;g/day). The lowest pH value was observed for females fed the R: C 19:81 diet at time zero (6.82) and for males fed R: C 67:33 at the three hour (6.5). For Brazilian Somalis sheep, a dietary roughage-to-concentrate ratio of 19:81 optimizes nutrient digestibility and nitrogen utilization without compromising key metabolic health indicators. Non-castrated males, in particular, exhibit enhanced nutrient intake and utilization efficiency. These findings support the use of high-concentrate diets, especially for male Brazilian Somali sheep, to improve productive responses.</p>
