<p>The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of non-genetic factors and to estimate direct and maternal genetic influences on early reproductive traits in Beetal goats using Bayesian inference. Data spanning duration of 20 years (2004–2023), which included data on 305 female kids from 36 sires and 171 dams, were analyzed. The early reproductive traits studied were age at first kidding (AFK), weight at first kidding (WFK) and first kidding interval (FKI). Non-genetic factors such as period of birth, type of birth, and dam’s weight at kidding were analyzed using a general linear model. Period of birth significantly (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05) influenced AFK and WFK, while dam’s weight at kidding significantly (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05) affected WFK. Birth type had no significant (<i>P</i> &gt; 0.05) effect on all the studied traits. The overall least square mean for early reproduction traits viz., AFK, WFK and FKI were 814.84 days, 30.19&#xa0;kg and 433.55 days, respectively. Bayesian analysis was carried out using six univariate animal models via GIBBS2F90 and POSTGIBBSF90 in the BLUPF90 software suite. The estimates of direct heritability under best model for AFK, WFK, and FKI were 0.07 ± 0.05, 0.17 ± 0.09 and 0.13 ± 0.09, respectively, which were low in range. Significant influences of maternal effects were observed for AFK and WFK traits. Genetic correlations ranged from − 0.99 (AFK–FKI) to 0.74 (AFK–WFK). The findings emphasized the need to consider maternal effects and managemental practices for effective genetic evaluation and selection planning towards enhancing reproductive efficiency of Beetal goats.</p>
