<p>The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of prior supplementation (mineral and protein–energy) during the grazing period and dietary adaptation (10 and 20 days) to the feedlot on the performance and carcass traits of cull Nelore cows. A total of 94 non-pregnant Nelore cows, over five years of age and with an average initial body weight (BW) of 327&#xa0;kg, were used. Before finishing in the feedlot, the animals were managed on Tifton-85 grass pasture (<i>Cynodon dactylon</i>) for 60 days. During this period, a completely randomized design was adopted with two treatments: mineral supplementation and protein–energy supplementation. In the feedlot phase, a completely randomized 2 × 2 factorial design was used, with two types of supplements (mineral and protein–energy) and two adaptation periods (10 and 20 days). Supplementation during the pre-finishing phase with the protein–energy supplement resulted in greater initial and final weight gain in the feedlot, better body condition score, higher slaughter weight and hot carcass weight, as well as improved carcass yield and marbling in cull Nelore cows finished in confinement. Additionally, the 20-day adaptation period in the feedlot promoted higher feed intake and better fecal score.</p>
