Chemoselective Reduction of Aryl Halide Bearing Nitro Group Enabled by Heterogeneous Monolith Supported Pd Catalyst

Dehalogenation has long been a critical topic in industrial chemistry. Despite the availability of various methods, many suffer from prolonged reaction times, low efficiency, and poor selectivity. Herein, we report the use of a monolith-supported palladium (Pd) catalyst in a continuous flow system to achieve the selective reduction of bromonitrobenzene. By precisely tuning the reaction conditions, reaction selectivity was effectively controlled, allowing preferential formation of either nitrobenzene or aniline. Under optimized conditions, the yield of nitrobenzene exceeded 80%, demonstrating the high efficiency of the catalytic system. The influence of reaction conditions such as time and temperature was investigated. These findings represent the fastest and most efficient approach reported to date for the reduction of aryl bromides.
