The impact of rainfall on the performance of free space laser communication systems
摘要
Free Space Optical (FSO) communication is an important technology for overcoming the bandwidth bottleneck in modern communication systems. However, atmospheric conditions (such as rainfall, fog and atmospheric turbulence, etc.) have a significant impact on the performance of FSO communication. Under adverse weather conditions, it may lead to a serious degradation of communication quality, or even communication interruption. In this paper, based on the Mie scattering theory of uniform spherical particles, the optical scattering characteristics of a single raindrop particle was modeled and analyzed, and the computational efficiency was optimized also. Subsequently, Under the conditions of the given key design parameters and modulation scheme of the FSO system, the attenuation characteristics of a 1550 nm laser signal under varying rainfall intensities were investigated by using three existing different raindrop size distribution models. Finally, based on the given design scheme and parameters of the FSO system, on a 1–3 km communication link, the reception power, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and bit error rate (BER) of the 1550 nm laser signal under different rainfall intensities were simulated and analyzed with the change of related communication parameters. The research results and conclusions further quantitatively analyze and verify the possible impact of rainfall on the performance of FSO communication systems, and provides a theoretical basis for the optimized design of FSO systems and the improvement of overall communication performance.
