Development of the Effective SIF Range Concept for Predicting the Fatigue Crack Growth Rate at Different Stress Ratios and Maximum SIF Values. Part 2. Consideration of the Short Fatigue Crack Growth Peculiarities
摘要
The paper shows how the threshold characteristics of fatigue crack growth (the threshold SIF range ∆Kth,R under stress ratio R, the effective SIF threshold range ∆Kth,eff, and the internal SIF threshold range ∆Kth,in) can be used to predict the growth rate of a short fatigue crack. The results of calculating the kinetic curves of the short fatigue crack growth rate using the proposed model are presented and compared with experimental data on the growth of short cracks in specimens of titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V, aluminum alloy 2024-T3, and steel 0.45%C. An attempt is also made to explain what the kinetics of short fatigue crack growth rate has in common with the “Marci effect” in the kinetics of long fatigue crack growth rate.
