<p>The topic of assessing the strength of structures and facilities under explosive loads is not widespread, while the available sources of information contain no clear methodological approaches or regulatory requirements for the correct consideration of explosive loads and assessments of the strength of structures and facilities. Before directly calculating and assessing the strength of structures and facilities located at the NPP site, it is necessary to study the available empirical and numerical approaches for modeling explosive loads. The state building codes in force in Ukraine, which establish general rules for determining loads on building structures, do not contain sufficient recommendations for determining shock wave parameters. An overview of empirical approaches to determining the blast load on a structure is given in Part 1 of this study. This part considers the possibility of using direct numerical simulation of the explosion, the formation and propagation of an airborne shock wave to assess the explosive (blast) load on a structure.</p>
