<p>In this paper, we propose a composite index of child nutrition (<i>CICN</i>) as a single metric to measure and monitor efforts to improve nutritional status of children in the community. The <i>CICN</i> is based on routinely available data on stunting, wasting and underweight in children and does not require multi-dimensional classification of children as is the case with the composite index of anthropometric failure (<i>CIAF</i>). Using the data available from district level data from the National Family Health Survey of India, the <i>CICN</i> is shown to be almost linearly inversely related to <i>CIAF</i> and, therefore, can serve as a single metric for measuring and monitoring the progress towards child nutrition.</p>

摘要
