Numerical Simulation of Single Pile Behavior in the Influence Zone of Metro Shield Tunneling

This paper presents the results of numerical simulations of the behavior of a single foundation pile located partially or entirely within the zone of ground settlement created by mechanized shield tunneling of a metro tunnel. The internal forces and horizontal deformations of the pile, caused by ground displacement, were found to depend on the position of the pile toe relative to the tunnel axis (above, at the same level, or below) and on the horizontal distance between the tunnel and the pile.
