Calculation of Pile Strip Foundations Under Conditions of Sinkhole Formation

This paper investigates the stress-strain state of the “strip pile foundation–soil foundation” system in case of sinkhole formation causing horizontal pressure of the collapsing soil on the piles. Numerical studies with the use of geotechnical software Midas GTS, Plaxis 2D, and Plaxis 3D resulted in the horizontal pressure diagrams. A design scheme was constructed and an analytical calculation method was developed to determine the bending moments in the pile along its entire length and the horizontal load on the pile cap.
