In order to improve the loose soils and increase their bearing capacity, very wide and diverse methods and techniques can be used. One of the most appropriate methods is the use of micropiles, which rapidly increased for several reasons such as simplicity and applicability at different sites. Karbala in Iraq has weak and loose upper layers and most of the buildings built there have suffered from settlement over time. The soil in the city of Karbala is classified as silty-sand soil, which is prone to immediate and long-term settlement, and the demand for the implementation of micropiles in this city has increased. In this research, grout micropiles have been implemented at the site of the study area to increase the bearing capacity of the soil. Field axial compression loading tests have been conducted on grout micropiles of different lengths. Based on the results of loading tests conducted on micropiles, the experiment revealed that load capacity and the results of theoretical relationships were close; thus, the results of the designs are fully confirmed. It was also observed that micropile length had a significant effect on carrying capacity and settlement. By increasing the length of grout micropiles, the settlement amount increased. According to the amount of the design load considered in this project, micropiles with a length of 8 m can be used in this case study.</p>

摘要

The article is based on the presentation at the international conference “Soil Mechanics and Geotechnics in High-Rise and Underground Construction,” which was held in honor of Prof. Z. G. Ter-Martirosyan (Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, September, 2024). According to the amount of the design load considered in this project, micropiles with a length of 8 m can be used in this case study.
