Reliability Analysis of the Treatment of Dam Foundations by Coupling Monitoring Measurements and Modeling
摘要
To ensure the overall safety and reliability of dams, foundation treatment by injection aims to control infiltration parameters (flow rates, pore pressures, hydraulic gradients, etc.). The design and installation of injection curtains is a delicate, multicriteria task. This paper addresses the case of the El Izdihar dam in northwest Algeria, a dam that experienced serious challenges during impoundment owing to the behavior of its injection curtain. Interpreting the monitoring data (piezometric levels and pore pressures) alongside updated dam modeling revealed the origin and cause of the abnormal behavior at the level of the dam’s foundation. The empirical part of the analysis resulted in a diagnosis of the dam’s foundation and the proposal of measures to ensure the reliability and safety of the dam. The results presented in this paper constitute lessons learned from pathologies and provide technical guidance for the treatment and maintenance of dam foundations.
