摘要

Drawing from the sociostructural-intersectional body image framework and impression management theory, the present study recruited a community sample of feminists (N = 505) to examine the associations among political conservatism, anti-Black racism, feminist identification, internalization of White beauty ideals, and selfie-editing intentions/frequencies in the Chinese cultural context. Specifically, political conservatism was positively related to anti-Black racism, and negatively related to feminist identification. Anti-Black racism was associated with higher internalization of White beauty ideals, whereas feminist identification was associated with less internalization. White beauty ideal internalization, in turn, was associated with more immediate selfie-editing intentions and recalled selfie-editing frequency. Indirect, positive effects of political conservatism—on both immediate selfie-editing intentions and recalled selfie-editing frequencies—were found through anti-Black racism, feminist identification, and internalization of White beauty ideals. Lastly, political conservatism was also indirectly associated with lower recalled selfie-editing frequencies, due to its correlation with lower levels of feminist identification.
