<p>Through the lens of the Uncertain Futures project, this article uncovers what is like to grow old in an age of permacrisis, how inequalities are impacted by crisis and how crises can exacerbate existing inequalities facing older persons. The article seeks to uncover the role of the law in tackling these inequalities and the normative obstacles to achieving equality. These include the exceptionalism often associated with age-based discrimination and the lack of recognition and protection against forms of multiple and intersectional discrimination. The article highlights the impact of these normative gaps in perpetuating intergenerational stagnation of inequality and argues for the importance of a robust right-based approach to equality to achieving a more certain and secure future for older persons, even in times of permacrisis.</p>
