Wheeling Toward Wholeness: Integrating the Mosaic of Sexuality and Spinal Cord Injury Research
摘要
This paper explores the complex interplay between spinal cord injury (SCI) and sexuality, integrating scientific research with personal narrative. We introduce a kaleidoscopic, multidimensional theoretical framework that synthesizes years of study to illuminate this ever evolving area of inquiry. As a couple with direct experience of SCI, we aim to expand scholarly and public understanding, challenging outdated views and stigmas. Our work bridges academia and daily life, offering a lens that includes biological, psychological, sociocultural, and environment dimensions, to better comprehend the impacts on sexual identity, intimacy, and expression post-injury. By making this knowledge more accessible, we advocate for inclusivity and a nuanced public discourse. Ultimately, with the following article, we aim to democratize knowledge, illuminate the often underexplored complexities of sexual health and identity following SCI, and promote environments where individuals can navigate their sexual lives with dignity and autonomy.
