Psychosocial Problems Caused by the Disease and its Effect on Sexual Life in Dialysis Patients: A Phenomenological Study
摘要
The aim of this study was to investigate the psychosocial problems caused by the disease and its effect on sexual life in hemodialysis patients. In this study, phenomenological research design, which is a qualitative research design, was used. This qualitative research was conducted with 15 hemodialysis patients. Interviews were conducted individually and face-to-face. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological analysis method. Two themes (psychosocial problems and sexual life) and six sub-themes (physical problems, mental problems, social problems, problems related to sexual life, spouse and sexual life, coping with sexual problems) were identified in the data analysis. As a result of this study, it was found that hemodialysis patients had psychosocial problems and their sexual lives were negatively affected. Since end-stage renal disease is a multifaceted disease, nurses need to professionally assess sexuality in patients, diagnose sexual dysfunction, and take timely measures.
