<p>This paper presents an approach to analyzing illustrations of science scenes. These images depict scientists conducting experiments, making discoveries, or presenting their ideas in societal meetings, offices, or the field, often surrounded by objects relevant to their studies. Despite their frequent inclusion in educational and historical materials, such illustrations are often treated as mere embellishments. This paper re-evaluates their significance, demonstrating that they offer valuable historical insights. Focusing on two examples from the history of electricity—illustrations from the works of French abbé Jean Antoine Nollet (1700–1770) depicting the <i>flying boy</i> and <i>Leyden jar</i> experiments—this study applies theories from art history, methodologies for analyzing visual materials, and perspectives from the new cultural history. By conducting a deep, contextualized analysis, I discuss how these illustrations contribute to a richer understanding of the historical episodes they depict. This study highlights the overlooked potential of illustrations of science scenes and proposes new ways to integrate them into teacher education, encouraging a more nuanced engagement with visual historical sources.</p>
