<p>The significance of nature of science (NOS) in science education has gained widespread acknowledgement. An informed understanding of NOS is essential for cultivating individuals' scientific literacy. Consequently, it is desired that both students and teachers possess well-informed conceptions of NOS. While previous studies have explored NOS, there remains a notable gap in the investigation, particularly concerning prospective elementary teachers (PETs) in the Philippine context. Hence, the present study examined the NOS views held by PETs within a teacher education institution in the Philippines, employing a convergent mixed-methods design. Utilising stratified sampling, 204 PETs served as respondents in this study. Data on PETs' views regarding six NOS aspects: observation and inference, tentativeness, scientific theories and laws, socio-cultural embeddedness, imagination and creativity, and scientific methods were gathered using a dual-response instrument. Analyses revealed that most PETs did not possess well-informed views of all NOS aspects. Specifically, Likert data indicated that PETs predominantly held transitional views, while open-ended responses showed a spectrum ranging from naive to transitional views among the respondents.</p>
