摘要

The renewed importance of political economy is reflected in the economics profession’s highest accolade, with recent Nobel Prizes recognizing scholars whose work has been quintessential in the development of this field. This article serves as an introduction to the special issue on The political economy of entrepreneurship. As a preface to the contributions of the special issue, we provide a short primer on classical liberal political economy to acquaint unfamiliar readers with this tradition. We then describe four interrelated themes of the political economy of entrepreneurship that build on and extend the classical political economy to the domain of entrepreneurship. The nine articles in this special issue contribute to the themes: rent-seeking entrepreneurship, the political economy of entrepreneurship policy, institutional entrepreneurship, and political ideology. We also introduce a research agenda to advance the political economy of entrepreneurship as a robust, policy-relevant field of inquiry.
