<p>Both the American public and the government are sending signals that they disapprove of sociology’s current course: many sociology grads regret their choice of major, college enrollments in sociology programs are down, and some politicians have singled the discipline out for attack. American sociology is in crisis. In the following discussion, four university professors identify the problems facing the discipline and what might be done to fix them.</p>
