<p>Layered magnesium silicates modified by dimeric chlorin <i>e</i><sub><i>6</i></sub> derivatives with different spacer lengths between the macrocycles have been synthesized for the first time. In the modified magnesium silicates, dimeric chlorin <i>e</i><sub>6</sub> derivatives exist as individual molecules regardless of the spacer length. It was found that binding to the layered magnesium silicate resulted in a partial protonation of the chlorin macrocycles due to the interaction with proton-donating OH groups of the silicate, which is confirmed by the corresponding changes in the absorption and emission spectra.</p>

Layered magnesium silicates modified by dimeric chlorin e6 derivatives with different spacer lengths between the macrocycles have been synthesized for the first time.
