<p>Rare-earth metal tris(carbazolide) complexes [Ln(NC<sub>12</sub>H<sub>4</sub>-3,6-Bu<sup>t</sup><sub>2</sub>-1,8-Br<sub>2</sub>)<sub>3</sub>] (Ln = Y, Tb, Dy, Ho) were synthesized by the alkane elimination starting from 1,8-dibromo-3,6-di-<i>tert</i>-butyl-9<i>H</i>-carbazole (3,6-Bu<sup>t</sup><sub>2</sub>-1,8-Br<sub>2</sub>CarbH) and [Ln(CH<sub>2</sub>SiMe<sub>3</sub>)<sub>3</sub>(THF)<sub>2</sub>] in a molar ratio of 3: 1. According to the X-ray diffraction analysis, the complexes [Ln(NC<sub>12</sub>H<sub>4</sub>-3,6-Bu<sup>t</sup><sub>2</sub>-1,8-Br<sub>2</sub>)<sub>3</sub>] contain formally three-coordinate Ln atoms and crystallize as racemates consisting of equal amounts of Δ and Λ enantiomers, differing in the direction of inclination of the carbazolide planes with respect to the plane formed by the nitrogen atoms of three carbazolide ligands.</p>

Rare-earth metal tris(carbazolide) complexes [Ln(NC12H4-3,6-But2-1,8-Br2)3] (Ln = Y, Tb, Dy, Ho) were synthesized by the alkane elimination starting from 1,8-dibromo-3,6-di-tert-butyl-9H-carbazole (3,6-But2-1,8-Br2CarbH) and [Ln(CH2SiMe3)3(THF)2] in a molar ratio of 3: 1. According to the X-ray diffraction analysis, the complexes [Ln(NC12H4-3,6-But2-1,8-Br2)3] contain formally three-coordinate Ln atoms and crystallize as racemates consisting of equal amounts of Δ and Λ enantiomers, differing in the direction of inclination of the carbazolide planes with respect to the plane formed by the nitrogen atoms of three carbazolide ligands.
