摘要

This study examines how land requisition and the development of land rental markets jointly affect rural households’ migration for work across regions of China. Using a nationally representative dataset, contrary to previous studies that focus on a small number of counties or provinces, we provide empirical evidence on the heterogeneous effects of land tenure security at different levels of land rental market development across China’s regions. Our results show that improved land tenure security, combined with more developed land rental markets, increases both the likelihood of migration and the number of migrants in the western region. In contrast, it reduces both outcomes in the eastern region.
