Photoelectrochemical water splitting with BiVO4 photoanodes synthesized by different methods
摘要
In this work, we report our effort to prepare and characterize BiVO4 samples by different methods including hydrothermal method (BiVO4-HT), chemical precipitation (BiVO4-CP), and electrodeposition (BiVO4-ED). Then, the synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, FTIR, UV–visible diffuse reflectance spectrophotometer, photoluminescence spectroscopy. The obtained results showed that all samples exhibit crystal phase of monoclinic scheelite of bismuth vanadate. However, crystallinity and particle size are dissimilar when BiVO4 is synthesized by different methods. The photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance of bismuth vanadate increases in the order of BiVO4-CP < BiVO4-HT < BiVO4-ED. The outstanding PEC activity of BiVO4-ED is probably due to its smaller particle size, lower electron–hole recombination ability and lower charge transfer resistance. In addition, the synthesized bismuth vanadate also shows a relatively high photostability. The PEC performance of BiVO4 formed on the ITO surface is better than that of BiVO4 formed on the FTO surface.
