摘要

In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review of the actions taken by central banks in response to the price effect of the Russia-Ukraine war. Our review helps to understand how the war has triggered policy changes across different categories of countries. We complement the review with empirical analyses, demonstrating a significant shift in the response of central banks to war-induced shocks on monetary policy behaviour. The findings reveal that during the war period, central banks exhibited stronger and more rapid policy responses to inflationary pressures. Furthermore, the results indicate that geopolitical instability and energy price shocks significantly amplify inflation persistence and monetary tightening, thereby deepening policy asymmetry across regions. Overall, the outcome is quite instructive, as it provides evidence of the need to consider the price effect of the war when analyzing the effectiveness of monetary policy over a period that extends to the Russia-Ukraine war.
